Being positive means being confident in what you can do and what you can’t do. Assuming you are going to be great at everything is just going to set you up to fail.
As small business owners we have to do a lot in our business. We do everything from creating and designing through to bookkeeping. Just because we have to do these things, doesn’t mean to say we’re going to be good at them all. Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses is really key to keeping a positive frame of mind.
To do this, try and break down the different areas of your business and identify what you know you do well, and what you know you don’t do so well at or struggle with.
What You Do Well
It should be obvious the things you do well. This is also likely to be the things you enjoy doing. As a creative business owner this is likely to be the making side of your business.
What You Don’t Do Well
This may seem like a negative thing to do, however knowing the things you are not good at or don’t enjoy doing will really help power your business with positivity.
Why? Because it will help you to set realistic expectations of your own performance in these areas and as your business grows, it also shows you the areas you should be looking for help with or outsourcing.
Take a look at this list and identify what training or support you require to help you with the areas of your business where you are not as confident or skilled as other areas. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help – this is what will help you grow your business.
